Scaling Security Services

How DirectDefense Built a Structure for Sustainable Growth with OIC Advisors

DirectDefense, a cybersecurity start-up, was having challenges with growth and scale in both their consulting and the managed services businesses. The company's leadership felt there were organizational and operational improvement opportunities that could unlock increased productivity, improved margins, and a better valuation.

Our Approach

After speaking with DirectDefense’s founders, OIC proposed a fast-tracked “Operational Velocity Assessment” which would look at the company’s corporate strategy, the portfolio of offers, the level of operational rigor, and the organizational design.

As part of the 4-week assessment, the OIC team reviewed existing documentation, interviewed leadership team members, and conducted a confidential employee survey. Once the survey results were analyzed we held a workshop with the leadership team to review the current state of employee sentiment and job satisfaction.

Our Targeted Business Outcomes

DirectDefense has transformed its portfolio, operations, and organizational design into a scalable growth engine with significant go-to-market differentiation and repeatable, scalable processes. When they are ready to move forward with an exit, they will be in an excellent position to negotiate healthy multiples as part of the process.

With the founders showing the utmost transparency, the majority of the employee sentiment issues uncovered by the employee survey have been addressed, with improved clarity on strategic direction, and clarity on each employee’s role in the execution plan. This has greatly improved employee engagement and retention, and reinforced a highly collaborative culture.
